Amir Reza Arefi – 21 – Stop His Illegal Execution – Petition – Sign this petition here – Signature page – GoPetition

Persian text below.

To: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
Sadeq Larijani and The 15th branch of
the Revolutionary Court
High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay

We the petitioners are calling for an immediate halt to the execution of Amir Reza Arefi and for the immediate dismissal of charges of ‘Moharebeh’ on the grounds that; the defendant had been incarcerated since April 15th, 2009 and in the custody of the IRI at the time of the alleged crime and therefore could not have been involved in any activities during the June 2009 election.

We call for the immediate release from prison of Amir Reza Arefi as the charges are a complete fabrication and without just cause.

We also call on the Head of the Judiciary, Sadeq Larijani to investigate the source of these fictitious charges, and to hold those responsible accountable for falsifying state documents, and charge them for their crime in perpetrating these injustices and thereby causing severe emotional distress to the victim and his family.

Furthermore we call on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Sadeq Larijani to halt all mock trials and release all political prisoners including; Students, Journalists, Women’s Advocates, Religious Minorities, Trade Union Representatives, Human Rights workers and illegally detained foreign nationals and to comply with IRI State and International Laws and Treaties concerning due process of law and human rights.

Urgent 9 Iranian Protesters scheduled to be executed soon! #iran #Ashura #iranelections

February 11, 2010

HT to E.R. who relayed this message to me from Amnesty International:

URGENT ACTION: Nine at Risk of Execution over Iran Protests!Share

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENT:

“NINE At RISK Of EXECUTION Over IRAN PROTESTS”
( 2 Febbruary 2010)

Amnesty International has urged the Iranian authorities not to execute nine people sentenced to death who were arrested in relation to the protests that followed last year’s disputed presidential election.
The organization said it fears the Iranian authorities are planning to execute some or all of the nine in public before 11 February, the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, when further protests are expected.

According to Iranian media reports, Deputy Judiciary Head Ebrahim Raisi said on Monday that, after the execution of Reza Ali-Zamani and Arash Rahmanipour last week, the nine others will be executed “soon”.

“Those sentenced did not have had a fair trial,” said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Deputy Director. “They were denied access to a lawyer in the initial stages of their detention, and some or all appear to have been coerced into giving confessions.. It is also not clear whether those condemned have been able to exercise their right to appeal.”

At least two of the nine others on death row, Naser Abdolhasani and Reza Kazemi, were sentenced to death in similar post-election “show trials”. The identity of the other seven is unknown.

PLEASE SEND APPEALS

LETTER / APPEAL:

Your Excellency/ Director / Dear Mr or Mrs,

I am deeply concerned about the case of nine people sentenced to death who were arrested in relation to the protests that followed last year’s disputed presidential election.
Human Rights Organizations fear that some or all of the nine could be executed in public before 11 February, the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, when further protests are expected.
In fact, according to Iranian media reports, Deputy Judiciary Head Ebrahim Raisi said on Monday that, after the execution of Reza Ali-Zamani and Arash Rahmanipour last week, the nine others will be executed “soon”.
I want underlining and pointing out to your attention that those sentenced did not have had a fair trial. They were denied access to a lawyer in the initial stages of their detention, and some or all appear to have been coerced into giving confessions.
After terrible execution of Mohammad Reza Ali-Zamani (37) and Arash Rahmanipour (19, hanged in public last Thursday after being convicted of “enmity against God”, I call all Iranian authorities
to consider the opportunity to impose an immediate and comprehensive moratorium on all executions, as a first step towards ending the use of this punishment: the international image of the Islamic Republic of Iran could remarkably take advantage of this choice.
All human rights organizations, as Amnesty International, recognizes the right and responsibility of governments to bring to justice, in conformity with international standards of fair trial, those suspected of criminal offences, but opposes the death penalty as the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.

Sincerely,
